Starting March 21, Island Rec is thrilled to announce the re-opening of STAR, our daily after school program for K-5th grade!

“The STAR program serves a critical need for elementary age afterschool childcare in our community, and we know how was important it is for Island Rec to get this program up and running again”, reported Maddie Ovenell, Island Rec Director. The program will officially open back up on Monday, March 21, 2022.

STAR is open to children attending kindergarten through 5th grade and is open on all school days from 2:45-6pm and on early dismissal days from 11:10am-6pm. STAR is located at the elementary school and operates out of the cafeteria. STAR includes time for kids to unwind after school with some free play, organized and diverse recreational and educational activities, structured homework time and snack. Nate Colegrove will be managing the program and will have two additional staff to assistant with program operations.

Before parents can send their child, an application must be on file with Island Rec. To apply, go to www.islandrec.org/star for an application and additional program information. Additionally, you are welcome to call the Island Rec office with any questions.

“I am excited about the quality program that Nate is developing. He has great experience working with children and many skills and talents that will keep both kids and parents happy” Ovenell concluded.
