About
San Juan Island Park & Recreation District – known locally as Island Rec – is a junior taxing district serving San Juan Island residents since 1984. Island Rec provides robust recreation programming and maintains several parks, including the community athletic fields and walking trail at John O. Linde Community Park. Approximately 80% of funding for Island Rec comes from a voter-supported property tax levy. Participant fees for recreation programs as well as some donations and grants cover the remaining 20% of costs. Island Rec’s current levy expires in 2027. The district is governed by a board of five publicly elected commissioners. Get to know the staff of Island Rec!
