Family Open Skate Theme Nights

Drop in the Fair Building for music, friends, and free-wheeling fun and exercise. You bring the wheels; we’ll bring the tunes. Every week is a different theme! Youth under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Helmets required for those under 18. Roller blades/skates only.

Preschool Drop-In Gym New!

Join us on Saturday mornings for drop-in gym time with your little one. Enjoy time on the play mats, climbing wall, and in the gym. There will be running, jumping, laughing, and fun while developing gross motor skills and getting out of the house. Bring a strider bike or scooter for extra fun indoors!  Active supervision by a guardian is required.

Messy Me 

Do you have a little explorer who loves to touch and feel everything around them? We have the perfect opportunity for them to indulge in their curiosity! Join us for this exciting event, co-hosted by the San Juan Island Library and Island Rec, where your child can freely explore sensory bins filled with fascinating materials and textures. Dress to get dirty! Active supervision by a guardian is required.

Children’s Festival Poster Contest
“Happy Birthday Island Rec”

Create a poster for San Juan Island’s 32nd Children’s Festival to be held on May 18 at Linde Park! Prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Pick up an entry form from the Island Rec office starting March 4. Deadline to submit a poster is April 19.

Lego Camp

Bring Minecraft to life using LEGO bricks! Venture into the world of Minecraft in our unique LEGO experience. Get ready to build your base, craft your tools, use your Minecart to harvest raw resources, and battle to stop the Enter Dragon from ending the world. Come explore the endless possibilities of LEGO with a trained Play-Well instructor. Students will have a blast, even without any prior experience with Minecraft or LEGO materials. Future Hoopsters Basketball

Get ahead of the game with this 4-week developmental basketball program. This program is an excellent opportunity to learn about and enjoy the game of basketball. Learn and practice basic kicks and punches as well as self-defense techniques, mobility and agility skills, and traditional kata with Sensei SoRelle of Evergreen Kenpo. DIY Skincare for Teens New!

Join a local herbalist in creating custom skin care products. We will be making a variety of all-natural products customized for teen skin issues. Teens will leave knowing how to make skin care products specifically for them. Early fee deadlines are two Thursdays before the class begins.

Youth Bowling League  New!

Register for this new league with games played on Saturdays at Paradise Lanes. Previous bowling experience not required. First session will include a general bowling lesson. Beginner Skateboarding  New!

Join instructors Greg and Bradley, skateboarders for over 25 years, for this beginner skateboarding program. Learn the FUNdamentals from the anatomy of a skateboard, to proper balance, rolling, turning, riding ramps, and even falling safely! Helmets and closed-toe shoes required. Babysitting Class


Babysitting is important business and good babysitters are always in demand! Safe Sitter® is a nationally recognized training program that teaches the skills to do the job well and earn parents trust. Safe Sitters will leave this training with a valuable toolkit of medically accurate, up-to-date information and potentially life-saving skills to add to their babysitting resumes. Participants will learn: How and where injuries can happen, how to prevent them, how to perform infant/child choking rescue, how a child’s age affects how to care for them, how to prevent problem behaviors, and how to effectively run a babysitting business. A minimum of 6 participants is needed by the early registration deadline. Early fee deadlines are two Thursdays before the class begins.

Kid’s Maker Workshop

Are you a kid who has always wanted to be in a craft fair? Do you have an idea of something awesome you could sell? Join our workshops getting ready for the Island Kid’s Maker Fair on May 10. We will brainstorm product ideas, talk about pricing, booth setup, customer interaction and managing money. Kid’s will not create products during these workshops, that will need to happen at home. This class is NOT a prerequisite to participate in the Island Kid’s Maker Fair. Early fee deadlines are two Thursdays before the class begins.

Camp Orkila Day Trip  

Island Rec is taking over Camp Orkila for the day! Participants will take the ferry over to Orcas Island and participate in a variety of adventures, including rock climbing, archery, and zip lining.
