Little Vet School – CANCELLED

This class will introduce kids to the world of animals around them. Through fun exercises, books and also hands on experience with animals, it will inspire them to love, respect, and care for animals. They will learn the basics of animal care and handling. The class will focus primarily on companion pets such as dogs, cats, birds and pocket pets, but may also include other domestic and farm animals, as well as wildlife. On field trip days Island Rec will transport participants from FHES to the field trip location in the Island Rec Van.
A minimum of 8 participants is needed by the early fee deadline.

DIY Strumsticks

Make your very own strum stick. These 3-string micro guitars are virtually indestructible bombproof and easy to learn how to play. Strum sticks are essentially mountain dulcimers but play like a guitar. We provide the kit and all the things needed to build these beautiful instruments. You walk away with a finished strum stick (that costs a couple of hundred dollars) AND lessons on how to play. Super fun. These kits were assembled by students in the FHHS STEM class. Minimum of 6 participants is needed by the early fee deadline.

Astronaut Camp

Come play in this four-week astronaut camp where we’ll be donning our jet packs every week, exploring outer space, rocket ships, reading, eating astronaut snacks, doing crafts and having a grand time. Bound to be an out-of-this world adventure! A minimum of 6 participants is needed by the early fee deadline.

Messy Me

Explore and play with Island Rec and the library staff. This will be a messy play-time activity with all sorts of experiential learning. Think of a room with lots of paint and other tactile goo, preschool kids, and let your imagination go! Don’t worry, we’ll provide the tarps!

Dance Camp

Dance, dance and more dance. Jeanne Peihl will be offering Jazz, Funk and Hip Hop dance skills, infused with games, crafts, and team-building exercises. There’ll be tons of fun and fitness in a safe and supportive environment. Participants will learn a short dance routine to perform for friends and family at the end of camp! Bring water bottle and athletic clothing. A minimum of 8 participants is needed by the early fee deadline.

Intro to Sports

Intro to Sports is designed to get your children prepared for organized sports. With a step-by-step approach, the program builds confidence, and self-esteem! Island Rec staff will work together with your child in a supportive environment to learn throwing, catching, batting, dribbling and much more. A minimum of 10 participants is needed by the early fee deadline.

Girls Basketball League

The focus of this league is development and improvement of individual and team skills. Previous team experience is not required. Participants practice twice per week beginning the week of January 15th. Volunteer coaches, scorekeepers, and referees are needed! Games are played on Sunday afternoons (on-island) January 28-March 4, with no game the weekend of February 18. Concussion Agreement Form must be signed by both parent and child and turned in before first practice.

Roller Hockey – Drop-In/Season Pass

Roller Hockey is a co-ed drop-in program played indoors at the fair building. New players are always welcomed! You will learn new skills and improve existing skills in this organized drop-in play. Volunteer coaches are on-hand for the youth and teen divisions to provide instruction on individual and team skills. Buy a season pass and save money!

Futsal – Drop In

Join Coach Van on Wednesday’s after the new year. Futsal is a dynamic soccer game played indoors using a special ball that features a reduced bounce.  This is a fun, fast paced game popular world wide. 15-20 mins will be skill work and the rest of the hour is for games.  Come out and play to increase your soccer skills or just for the fun of it! Must meet a minimum of 6 participants with a season pass in each age group for program to run.

Scooter & Skate Nights

Saturdays, Starting November 4!
No matter the weather, there’s always indoor fun to be found on Saturday nights at the Fair Building! Drop-in for an evening of music, friends, and free-wheeling fun. You bring the wheels, we’ll bring the tunes!

• Scooter & Trike Time goes from 5:30-6:30pm. Grab your scooter and your buddies and come burn off your jiggles! Drop-in fee is $2 per rider or $5 for the whole family.
• Family Open Skate goes from 7:00 to 8:30pm and is reserved for roller blades and roller skates only. All ages welcome. Drop-in fee is $3 per skater or $8 for the whole family.
• Why not stay for both? $5 per person / $10 family

Look for special COSMIC Skate nights on the first Saturday of the month or other special events throughout the winter!
Helmets are required for all participants under age 18.
Children under age 10 must be accompanied by an adult.


 

Winter Break Camp

Have some fun during Winter Break! Camp runs Tues-Fri, December 26-29, and Tues-Fri, January 2-5. Camp hours are 8:30am to 3:30pm with optional extended hours from 3:30 to 5:30pm (must also register for Extended Hours). Register by the day, or receive 10% off by signing up for all 8 days.

Island Rec’s School’s Out Programs Coordinator creates a program filled with fun & enriching games, arts and crafts and field trips. Camp is based at Friday Harbor Elementary School. Register by December 8th and take advantage of the early fee discounts!
