SAN JUAN ISLAND's SAILING TEAM

This is a competitive sailing race team, open to all high school aged youth who have taken sloop sailing or who can satisfactorily perform the necessary skills. To get parents and sailors ready for the season, all prospective racers and their parents are expected to attend the pre-season meeting. Island Rec and San Juan Island Sailing Foundation sponsor this program.

AGES: Grades 9 - 12

DATES: Tuesday and Thursdays March 4 - May 29

TIMES: Practices, 3:30 - 6:00 p.m.

YOUTH SPRING SAILING

The focus of this program will be on how to get the most out of a sailboat: how to rig and fine-tune a boat for various wind and sea conditions, strategies for getting the most speed out of your boat, tactics and how to get ahead of the competition, how to take advantage of changing conditions; teamwork, boat care and maintenance and the rules of racing.

We will focus on sailing fast, sailing smart and having fun! Prerequisite: successful completion of intermediate sailing. This class is offered cooperatively between San Juan Sailing Foundation and Island Rec. Participants must provide and bring to every class their own Coast Guard Approved Type III Vest Style life jacket and a whistle. Min 7/Max 12
