Minutes of the Board of Commissioners' Meeting
March 2, 2006
Island Rec - San Juan Island Park & Recreation District
1. Commissioner Cumming called the meeting to order at 5:35 pm on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at the Island Rec Office. Commissioners Cumming, Zehner, Ricks and Brown were present. Commissioner Hahn was absent. Staff present: Director Kerr and Admin. Assistant Swift Taylor.
2 Approval of the minutes of the previous meeting.
Without objection, the minutes were approved as presented.
3 Introduction of Visitors/Public Comment on Non-Agenda Items:
None.
4 Correspondence:
None.
5 Approval of Payroll/Vouchers:
Without objection, Commissioners approved vouchers and payroll as presented.
6 On-Going Business:
a. Island Rec Volunteer Recognition Event: Director Kerr confirmed that an ice cream social is scheduled for Thursday, April 20th at the Mullis Center. It will start at 7pm and end at 8. Commissioner Cumming and Director Kerr will express Island Rec’s appreciation.
b. Internship: Interviews were held on Saturday February 25. The internship was offered to one of the interviewees, Abby Spann, and has been accepted. The internship involves 400 hours over ten weeks.
c. Vacancy for a Custodian/Maintenance position. This will be an hourly position with more hours April-October and less during the winter. Funding for this position would be created through Budget line item amendment. The vacancy will be advertised in the near future.
d. 2006 Beginning Cash Balance was confirmed by the Auditors Office. Proposed amendments to the 2006 Budget will be discussed at a Public Hearing in April.
7. New Business:
a. Trails Publicity: No representative from the Trails Committee was present and the item was put on hold.
b. 2005 Program End of Year Status: Commissioners were given copies of the report and covering letter and general discussion took place. Copies will be forwarded to the media, the County Council, the Town of Friday Harbor and the County Parks Dept.
c. Program Report: Director Kerr reported that the Summer Program Guide will be mailed at the end of April. Commissioner Cumming will prepare his Chair Report for inclusion in the Guide. Fairgrounds programs will end at the end of March, and Open Gym times have now switched back to 7-9pm.
d. Skate Park Graffiti: Director Kerr confirmed that graffiti had been painted on the Skatepark, and the Park had been closed while the graffiti was painted over by the Sheriff’s Work Crew. There was an erroneous report on sanjuanislander.com that the Skatepark would remain closed until the person or persons committing the vandalism were found.
8. Commission Discussion Items.
a. Commissioner Brown will be absent from the March 16 meeting, Commissioner Ricks may be absent.
9. Adjournment – Without objection, Commissioner Cumming adjourned the meeting at 6:15 pm.
