Youth Video/Film Workshop

In this 5-day workshop participants will experience a complete “Page to Stage” process of creating and producing short video films. You will work in teams, rotating responsibilities, and be introduced to professional cameras, lights and sound equipment. In addition you will be learning and working with iMovie editing program. There will be a Friday afternoon screening of the films produced. This will be held in Spring Street International School’s new video production studio.

Adventure Camp: Survivor

While getting lost in the woods might be the goal for some of the participants, our goal is to teach woodland skills and survivorship. On day one we will hone our archery skills at the archery range trails. On day two we will be in the woods. To finish off camp we will spend the day in canoes off the west side of the island. Can’t ask for more fun or high adventure! A minimum of 7 registrations is required by the early fee deadline.

Adventure Camp: Canoe Camp

This camp is all about canoe adventures and immersing ourselves in what it takes to go adventuring with canoes. We will be out on canoes each day, while also spending time on the beach learning all kinds of camp skills. We will be working with Matt Wickey and Kaigani Canoe Voyaging Society. We will be fishing, learning about Northwest Native and Hawaiian canoe cultures, navigation, and whatever floats up on the beach. A minimum of 7 registrations is required by the early fee deadline.

Adventure Camp: Bike ‘n Beach

This three-day adventure camp is all about enjoying the best of what the islands have to offer! We will start off going to Eagle Cove and South Beach to play games on the beach, jump in the water, and explore the local trails. The 2nd day we’ll bike to Jackson Beach to soak up the rays, play games on the beach, jump off the floating trampoline, and do SUP – stand-up paddle boarding. On Thursday we pedal the back roads of Shaw Island (they’re all back roads on Shaw) and play at the County Park beach. Don’t forget your sunglasses! A minimum of 7 registrations is required by the early fee deadline.

Adventure Camp: Backpacking

This is the perfect camp for those who just want to get out and enjoy the outdoors while hanging out with friends on the trail. We will be doing day hikes for each of the days, (there are no overnights) and on day two and three actually wearing full backpacks. On the trail we will be using camp stoves, making fires, eating ‘camp food’, setting up tents, the whole nine yards. We will be meeting special guests along the trail for added interest and excitement. A minimum of 7 registrations is required by the early fee deadline.

Adventure Camp: AquaTeen

For this special 2-day adventure camp we’ll spend the end of summer in the water! On day one we will travel to Orcas Island and take over Camp Orkila to have our own special session there. Day two will be spent at Jackson Beach doing Stand-Up Paddle Boarding, making up beach games, water play, and just goofing off. Please bring a change of dry clothes, swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, and a sack lunch each day. A minimum of 7 participants is needed by the early fee deadline.

She Rocks Movement Camp

This camp is for girls and will focus on movement and body awareness. Movement will include: Pilates, Dance, Strength, and Endurance activities followed by relaxation, meditation and affirmations. Location will alternate between Jackson Beach and The Studio. Previous dance experience or organized physical activity is not required. Minimum of 8 registrants needed by early registration deadline!

Babysitting Class

Babysitting is important business and good babysitters are always in demand! Safe Sitter® is a nationally recognized training program that teaches the skills to do the job well and earn parents’ trust. Safe Sitters will leave this training with a valuable toolkit of medically accurate, up-to-date information and potentially life-saving skills to add to their babysitting resumes. Participants will learn: How and where injuries can happen, and how to prevent them, how to perform infant/child choking rescue, how a child’s age affects how to care for them, how to prevent problem behaviors, and how to effectively run a babysitting business. Be the sitter that all kids and parents want! A minimum of 6 participants is needed by the early registration deadline.

Dance Camp

Dance, dance and more dance. Jeanne Peihl of Salish Sea Ballet will be offering Jazz, Funk and Hip Hop dance skills, infused with games, crafts, and team-building exercises. There’ll be tons of fun and fitness in a safe and supportive environment. Participants will learn a short dance routine to perform for friends and family at the end of camp! Bring a water bottle, snack and athletic clothing. A minimum of 8 participants is needed by the early fee deadline.

Skateboard Camp

Whether you want to learn new tricks or try skateboarding for the first time, this camp is great for boys and girls of all skill levels. Learn from a dynamic team of instructors from the Seattle area. Participants will learn skateboarding basics in a safe, fun and supportive environment. Skateboards and helmets will be provided to those who do not have their own. A minimum of 7 participants is needed by early fee deadline.

FHFC Soccer Technical Training

This technical soccer clinic is designed for the serious young soccer player looking to continually improve their game. This will be an intense, no-nonsense soccer clinic that is competitive and technically focused. Tuesday and Thursday sessions will focus on all field positions while Wednesday’s will focus on goal keeper and striker training. Led by professionally licensed Coach Van, who has numerous years of experience coaching boys and girls from recreational to Youth Academy level. If you are focused and ready to take your game to the next level than this is for you! A minimum of 12 registrants needed by early registration deadline.

WWU Soccer Camps

This clinic is designed for players of all levels who want to learn and improve their fundamental soccer skills in a fun and encouraging environment. Players are given the unique opportunity to receive individual instruction from the 2016 NCAA DII National Champs: Western Washington University Women’s soccer coaches and players! Focus will be on individual skill development and small group tactical decision making. Minimum of 15 participants needed by early registration deadline!

Circus Arts Camp

Kids will find this camp fun, interesting and challenging as they are introduced to a variety of skills inspired by circus artists from around the world. Activities include Juggling, Trapeze, Tightrope, Unicycle, Tumbling, Acro-balance, Stilt-walking, Clowning, Magic and more. Della and Wren, better known as Dellamoustachella, will be teaching the July 31-Aug 4 camps, and Roustabout Circus will be teaching the August 7-11 camps. They are both new for Island Rec but have been teaching circus arts along the West Coast from Alaska to Mexico for many years.
