STAR is Island Rec’s supervised after-school program for boys and girls ages K-6. STAR is structured to provide opportunities for every child to learn, play, socialize and grow in a safe, enriching, and nurturing environment. Each day the program includes time for child initiated play; organized games and activities, snack and homework time.  It is licensed by Washington State’s Department of Early Learning. STAR is staffed by Alice Hibberd, Coordinator and Heather Spaulding, STAR Leader.

When & Where: STAR is located at Friday Harbor Elementary School

School days:               2:45pm - 6:00pm
Early dismissal days:     11:10am – 6:00pm

Daily Cost:                   $12.50  - regular school days
                                  $21  - early dismissal days
*2nd child receives 20% discount. 10 % discount when attending Monday – Friday 

Scholarships:

33%-66% fee discounts are available for children eligible for the school reduced or free lunch program. a scholarship form must be completed at Island Rec’s office. Financial Assistance is available through the Working Connections Child Care Subsidy. How to Enroll:

1. Fill out the STAR Application Form, STAR Aplicación en español
There is no fee to apply. Use one form per child. Submit the completed application to Island Rec’s office from 1 – 5 pm Monday-Friday, or drop it by STAR or the elementary school office. Once Island Rec has received your application form, you can send your child to STAR at any time.

2. STAR is a drop-in program. You have the flexibility of sending your child to STAR any day without pre-registering and you will be billed via email at the end of each month. Payment is due on the 20th of each month. A $25 late fee will be applied to accounts not paid on time.

Remember your child cannot drop-in or pre-register until Island Rec receives your STAR application.
